Asus RP-AX58: One minute review
Asus RP-AX58: Specifications
Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 6
Wi-Fi Speed: 3.0Gbps
Ports: 1x Gigabit Ethernet
Antennae: 2 (internal)
Dimensions: 150 x 72 x 87mm
The RP-BE58 range extender received high marks for its impressive dual-band Wi-Fi 7 performance at a reasonable cost. Yet, many users are still operating devices that do not support Wi-Fi 7.
While its dual-band Wi-Fi may run at a modest 3.0Gbps, this speed is generally sufficient for video streaming and gaming in typical households. The RP-AX58 serves as a solid budget option for improving Wi-Fi coverage in areas like upstairs bedrooms or those pesky deadzones.

By sticking with Wi-Fi 6, the RP-AX58 maintains a competitive price of $79.99/£64.99/AU $103.62.
This pricing establishes it as one of the most cost-effective range extenders we’ve seen in recent times. It is significantly cheaper compared to Asus’ RP-BE58 that features Wi-Fi 7, not to mention competitors like TP-Link’s BE3600. You can find it almost everywhere, and since Wi-Fi 6 has been around for a few years, discounts online occur frequently—so shopping around is advisable.
Asus RP-AX58: Design
The RP-AX58 features a sleek, compact design.
With no cables necessary, it plugs directly into a mains socket and sports 2x internal antennae.
Visually, the RP-AX58 resembles its Wi-Fi 7 counterpart closely. Its slimline form conceals the two internal Wi-Fi antennae effectively.
With measurements of 150mm high, 72mm wide, and 87mm deep, this range extender plugs directly into a standard power socket, allowing for convenient installation in any room of your home or workspace.
A Gigabit Ethernet port is located on the right side of the device, offering a wired connection as needed. Still, the RP-AX58 primarily relies on Wi-Fi to connect to your main router.
Asus RP-AX58: Features
The device supports Asus AiMesh technology and is compatible with most routers, though the accompanying app could use refinement.
The RP-AX58 operates on dual-band Wi-Fi 6 across both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz frequency bands, ensuring compatibility with a wide array of devices including PCs, consoles, and mobile gadgets..
Its performance level of 3.0Gbps does not break records but is likely sufficient for most home broadband connections, eliminating Wi-Fi deadspots effectively. The RP-AX58 integrates smoothly with routers from various brands and extends connectivity when paired with Asus’ AiMesh technology.
The Asus Extender app does have some design issues. For instance, the opening screen displays jumbled text on my iPhone (though it appears well on a larger iPad).
Nonetheless, even on clearer texts, instructions can still mislead. The app suggests entering the ‘default password’ for the new Wi-Fi network when, in fact, no password is needed initially. It’s only after connection to your existing Wi-Fi that the app allows password setup. Optionally, users can create a unique network name and password or simply request the app to use their existing ones.
The competitive pricing of the RP-AX58 means limited additional features, yet this is acceptable as long as it effectively addresses Wi-Fi deadspots.
Asus RP-AX58: Performance
It offers dual-band Wi-Fi 6 with a maximum speed of 3.0Gbps and one Gigabit Ethernet port.
Though Wi-Fi 6 speeds of 3.0Gbps may seem modest compared to the accelerated performance of the latest Wi-Fi 7 models, few users truly require multi-gig speeds for everyday home networking. The RP-AX58 is poised to meet typical home broadband needs without a hitch.
Asus RP-AX58 performance metrics:
Ookla Speed Test – 2.4GHz (download/upload)
Within 30ft, three partitions: 120Mbps / 120Mbps
20GB Steam Download – 2.4GHz
Within 30ft, three partitions: 120Mbps
Ookla Speed Test – 5.0GHz (download/upload)
Within 30ft, three partitions: 150Mbps / 150Mbps
20GB Steam Download – 5.0GHz
Within 30ft, three partitions: 150Mbps
The RP-AX58 transformed my office at the back of the building—the place where my normal router struggled to reach—into a strong Wi-Fi zone. After installing the RP-AX58 in a nearby hallway, I successfully eliminated the dead zone and no longer rely on any PowerLine adapters for a wired connection there.
My office broadband runs at 150Mbps, and the slower 2.4GHz band of the RP-AX58 provided a dependable 120Mbps, sufficient for running Steam downloads and Ookla tests without hiccups.
While the RP-BE58 was slightly swifter at 135Mbps on the same 2.4GHz frequency, its higher price reflects its support for Wi-Fi 7. Even so, 120Mbps suffices for smooth web browsing and video streaming.
The higher-performing 5.0GHz band achieved the full 150Mbps our broadband can deliver during all tests. Users with newer devices that can utilize Wi-Fi 7 may desire more cutting-edge options, but the RP-AX58 serves its purpose well with excellent value for boosting Wi-Fi in difficult areas around the home.
